For Goal 5a, I chose my Research Design project and an Article Critique from course 830. My project surrounds the hypothesis of the oral systemic link in dentistry, and the critique discussed the mental health and burnout risk for dental hygiene professionals. At first look it may not seem like these two topics are related. However, motivating patients to improve their health habits combined with the lack of inter-professionalism in dentistry can increase the stress of a dental professional. There is a need to address both issues. Health professions students need education surrounding how to care for their own mental health and how to educate patients on whole health. More research is needed in the future for both topics and how they affect clinicians.
